Let’s reflect together!

YO YO FAM! What is up?! I’ve missed you guys!! Hope you all are having an amazing day so far! So I was planning out future blog posts and throughout that process, I started to reflect on 2018 as a whole – how I’ve changed, how my life has elevated, and what I’ve learned. It’s just crazy to think about the growth that has occurred in the past 9 months. As I reminisced, I had the idea to make a list of some quotes that I’ve been living my life off of. Disclaimer, I’m not entirely sure where these quotes originated from or who initially said them because I find all these things on Pinterest haha! Gotta love a Pinterest queen! So don’t get mad at me. But I wanted to share some things that I tell myself that helps me get through my day and helps me maintain a positive outlook on life. But more importantly, quotes that got me to where I am today.
10 Quotes I Live By
1.) “If you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no. If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.”
I tell myself this often, especially because of my goals and dreams I have for the next 5 years of my life. Being a millennial, all you ever hear is to live for the moment. Enjoy today. To not spend time worrying about the future because it’s not here yet. I believe that it is so important to work hard now because it will pay off later. Like Eleanor Roosevelt said, “The future belongs to to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Go after it with grit and grace. Challenge yourself daily!
2.) “A year from now, you’re gonna wish you started today.”
The first step to accomplishing anything significant is to step out in faith and to just start. It’s hard but worth it. A lot can happen in a year and whatever it is your wrestling with, whatever you’re procrastinating on, whether it be working out and living a healthy lifestyle, starting a business or even starting like a blog or youtube channel for example (HAHA WINK WINK!), imagine if you just started today and stayed consistent in it how different your life could be in a year!
3.) “Forget the mistakes, remember the lessons.”
This one is so important to me! It’s a reminder to not live life full of regrets. There is something positive in every situation because every situation is an opportunity for growth to occur! We gotta learn what we can from everything life throws at us. Instead of dwelling on the mistakes or the negative things that happen, we should remember at the end of everyday to give it to God and go to sleep because tomorrow is a new day.
4.) “It is up to you to see the beauty of everyday things.”
This is very similar to the last quote I shared and it is equally as important. It is a reminder for me to focus on the positive instead of lingering on the negative and to choose joy as often as I can. There is always something to be grateful for!
5.) “Be the reason someone smiles.”
One of my greatest friends, JJ, would tell me this all the time when I first met him. After every conversation we had either in person or via text, we would end it by telling each other this little phrase. Sometimes we would even wake up in the morning and text this to each other as a reminder to be a light in this dark world. A reminder to not just look for the sunshine but to create it by adding value to any soul we came in contact with that day. GOTTA SPREAD THE ALOHA, FAM! Thank you, Jonny, for the kind of friendship we have! I appreciate you so much!!
6.) “Your potential is endless. Now go do what you were created to do.”
Whenever I read this, I imagine God telling me this straight to my face, especially when I don’t feel as confident in myself that day. I imagine Him holding my hands, looking me dead in the eyes, and telling me, “Daughter, you are chosen. You are beautifully and wonderfully made. You can do anything because I am with you.” This quote really pushes me to step out of the comfort zone that I camped in for such a long time. It reminds me of my worth because of whose I am. Now I’m here, writing this blog post and feeling amazing because I finally feel like I’m doing what I’m called to do in every aspect of my life. There is room for growth and so much more I know that God promises for my life but until God opens another door, imma be praising Him in the hallway!
7.) “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
There is a huge story behind this scripture verse. All my life, I was told to guard my heart but never fully understood why I needed to. It wasn’t until this year where this verse made the most sense to me because it became relevant to my situation. I’m not gonna go into depth because this is not what this blog post is about. But basically, people will be people and people sometimes suck. HAHAHA I can’t sugar-coat it. It’s the truth. #sorrynotsorry HAHA! Sometimes it’s the people who are closest to you that hurt you the most. Love everyone as best as you can, but only trust a few. Maybe in the future I’ll explain more about this particular season of my life because I’ve learned SOOOOOO MUCHHHH through it. But for now, that’s all I got. Lol!
8.) “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
My mom recently spoke this over me and it helped me get through one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever had to face. Due to some recent events, I’ve been experiencing anxiety like I’ve never experienced before. My heart would start pounding, my palms would get sweaty, I would start to shake uncontrollably and breathing became the hardest thing. Even a simple thought would trigger this kind of anxiety. Again, I’m not gonna go into details because that’s not what this blog post is about. Maybe in a future blog post. But I would speak this verse over me when I started to feel fear creep back in. It reminded me that there is so much power in the mind so it is important to remember who I belong to and who I am as a child of God. Fear has no authority over me because I am His and His alone. It’s so cool! It reminds me of another quote I tell myself often, “I’m blossoming into this badass woman with more faith than fear.” BOOM! Sorry, in serious situations, it’s always good to laugh. Lol!
9.) “Lust rushes but love waits.”
Ahhhhh. The struggle is so real when it comes to waiting for a bae. I wanted to add this because this has been something I’ve been telling myself for the past 8+ years now. I have a specific blog post in mind for this one so I’m not gonna say anything about it right now! LOL! It’s funny how curious people are when it comes to my non-existent love life. Stay tuned for that blog post!
10.) “Refuse to be content with just the knowledge of God. But insist on experiencing His presence.”
Like I mentioned before, I was reflecting on 2018 as a whole. Earlier this year, based on the things that had happened, I told myself that I was going to focus on my happiness and focus on me. Haha, a lot of crying happened these past few months so shoutout to Mycah, Braiden, Alyssa and my momma. Thank you for being there for me! There were some situations in my life this year that helped me realize once again that true contentment can only come from God. That’s when I realized that I wanted to devote the rest of the year to growing deeper in love with Him. I wanted to experience more of His presence and His goodness in my life. I wanted to know God. I wanted to be able to say that He is my best friend and actually mean it. I realized that when something happens, the first person I talk to is either my mom, my siblings or even my best friend. But I wanted my relationship with God to be so tight that I would immediately go to Him and that would be enough for me. I wanted people to look at me and think, “Dang, that girl is so in tune with the Holy Spirit.” I wanted people who didn’t know God to look at my life and say, “I want what she has. I want to get to know her God.” I just wanted to fall so deeply in love with Him. I’m on that journey and it’s so cool! I’m excited to share this journey with you and everything I’ve learned so far. I thought of this cool new series for my blog based on this topic so definitely stay tuned for that!
