How to Slay Mornings like a Boss

10 Ways to Fall in Love with the Morning

HIYA! What’s up, guys? Hope you had an amazing

week! Today, I’m coming at you with something a

little different from my previous posts, but I think

we can all benefit from it. At the beginning of the

year, I told myself, “Self…you’re gonna fall in love

with mornings.” Being the night owl that I am, I

knew this was going to be a difficult thing for me to

do. Who can relate? Haha! Even if you’re already a

morning person, hopefully you’ll still find this very

useful or at the very least, relatable! I want to

share with you my tips and tricks to slaying the

mornings like a boss and starting your day off

right!

How to Be a Morning Person

Tip #1 – Prep the night before

I’m the kind of person who preps the night before, especially when I have long days. I plan my outfit and get it ready for the morning so I don’t need to worry about it when I wake up. Also, packing your bag before you go to sleep is extremely helpful! You know that mini anxiety attack you get when you think you forgot something? Yeah… that sucks! But if you pack your bag the night before, you won’t feel rushed and you won’t forget anything important. Trust me, prepping the night before is a huge game changer. Try it!

Tip #2 – Make a list

If you’re like me, then lists are the best thing in the world. I love making to-do lists because every time I check something off, I feel accomplished and productive. When you wake up, make a list of the things you need to get done that day. Seeing everything laid out in front of you will help you not only stay organized, but it will motivate you to get it all done.

Tip #3 – Don’t hit the snooze

We are all guilty of this! We tell ourselves, “5 more minutes” and then 45 minutes later, we’re running around our rooms having a freak attack! Move your phone or alarm clock farther away from you so it forces you to get up and walk over to turn it off. Broken sleep is not healthy and hitting the snooze helped no one!

Tip #4 – Hydrate

Drink a big glass of ice cold water! If you want to be a little extra, add some lemon to it. This is a simple tip but still so important. Before grabbing that energy drink or making that pot of coffee, drink some water. It will wake you up and energize you just enough to start your day right.

Tip #5 – Avoid reaching for your phone

Another thing we are all guilty of – social media first thing in the A.M. The minute we wake up, we get our phone and scroll around. If you don’t do this, then good job! I need to learn from you, haha! But if you’re like me, then changing this step in your routine will make a big difference. Instead, grab a good book and read a little. It will help stimulate your mind and bring positivity to your day.

Tip #6 – Get some sunlight

This may be hard for some people simply because they have to get up before Mr. Golden Sun. If you’re that person, I’m so sorry. No one should have to leave that early to go to work or to school. But this is still a good tip for you. Find time in your morning to go outside. Get some sunlight! Get the free vitamin D! You’ll feel so much better!

Tip #7 – Exercise

Yeah… I suck at this one. But it is so important so I wanted to add this! Even something as simple as going for a walk around your block or doing some stretches in your backyard. Anything to get your blood flowing! Pinterest is filled with so many great 10-minute workout routines so no excuses for us. Lol! I want to start doing yoga on the days I have more time. But um…baby steps… haha!

Tip #8 – Listen to Music

I. Love. Music. SO MUCH. There is something about listening to a good song in the morning that boosts my spirits. Whether it be high praise Jesus music, a rap song with a sick beat or even a motivational podcast! Anything you want! Listen to something that’s inspiring and positive; something that will get you pumped for your day! Positive input will produce a positive output, my friend!

Tip #9 – Grateful Log

This one is definitely my favorite tip. Always start your day with a  grateful heart. I write down things that I am grateful for in either one of my MANY notebooks (stationary addict probs) or on my phone. I try to do this in the morning and evening to start and end my day right. It goes back to my first tip: prep the night before. Ending your day with a grateful heart as well is so important because you’ll go to sleep full of positive vibes that will carry over to your morning. Find time to thank God for the little things in your life. I’ve heard it said like this, “A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles.” I think that is so true because through grateful eyes, everything becomes a miracle. When we become aware of how blessed we truly are, miracles start to happen and blessings will fall like rain.

Tip #10 – Analyze your current mornings

The first step to changing anything is first accepting the reality of your current situation. How do you feel in the mornings right now? What does your current morning routine look like? Figure out why it isn’t working out so well so you know how to change it! Or if you got a pretty good thing going for you as far as routines go, you can leave it as is or find ways to enhance it. Point is we must create a morning routine – all the things you need to get done before you walk out your front door. We are human and routines are so important for us! What does yours look like?

“Life is about waking up an hour earlier to live an hour more.”

Yessss! These are awesome tips, girl! Especially the one about hydrating, because water is SO important to start the day off with (I remember reading somewhere that water helps “wake up” your internal organs or something like that – and now that I’ve said that, I just realized how awkwardly nerdy that sounds, but whatever :P). Also, I’ve been trying to start some version of a gratitude log for a while now, but I’ve been having trouble keeping consistent with it, but I know it’s a good habit to get into because when the focus is on thankfulness, it’s easier to not get stuck in the mud and a gloomy attitude. Great post, Misha! <3 ~L
